Thoughts at 22 weeks

Things I wonder about at 22 weeks:

Why haven’t I felt Baby Meatball yet? Does my extra padding block the feeling of his movement?

If Sean and I choose a name with an uncommon spelling and alternative pronunciation, will Meatball get annoyed that his name is frequently mispronounced and misspelled? At least he can commiserate with his father on the latter.

Do all maternity pants sag? Is that just me?

Speaking of sagging, how do young guys do this? It’s so uncomfortable and inefficient for walking.

Am I super behind on prepping for Baby Meatball’s arrival? Pregnancy forums make me feel that way since all I’ve really done is clean out the room that will become his nursery and secured a secondhand crib that I still need to pick up. Color scheme? Theme? Nope. Far from that.

Will I come back to running from pregnancy as a better, faster, stronger runner?

When will I actually start to look pregnant rather than just looking like I’ve gained weight?

Why did I get rid of most of my pre-weight loss clothes? I could’ve gone through pregnancy without buying much.

Why did I take such a long break from running last summer and early fall?

  1. You will be feeling Meatball any day now! As a person who’s name is constantly mispronounced and misspelled I can tell you that it bothers me to no end. Stay away from the forums! Get advice from friends and family. Yes soon you will wake up to find your belly has “popped” and you will look pregnant and soon after that you will not be able to see your shoes!

Congrats on 22 weeks! I know these were rhetorical, but.. nope, you are not behind on prep and yes, maternity pants suck. And I’m sure you’ll feel him any day now! (Any extra padding you have is not on your uterus, don’t drink that kool aid.)

Can’t wait for the name reveal 🙂

  3. It took me a long time to start feeling kicks! I want to say 26-28 weeks. At first, it was hard to tell if it was the baby or whatever I had for dinner gurgling around in there. And yeah, I was so relieved when I finally started looking definitively pregnant and not just fat! But we will need to see PICTURES to be certain. =)

Can’t wait to see belly pics! I lol’d at the name part. I don’t necessarily dislike my name, but all my life I’ve had to deal with people mispronouncing/misspelling my name and it drives me nuts! It frustrates me so much that if I’m somewhere that I have to give a name to be called out, I give Jeff. Having said that, I love uncommon names for kids! 😉

  5. I vote for a more conventional spelling, only because I did get annoyed when people botched my last name… even into adulthood.

I have a large box of clothes that I wore when I gained weight some years ago, which I’ve actually held on to “just in case.” Glad I’m not irrational in my hoarding.

No te apures. With my first, I thought we were experiencing minor quakes when in reality the baby was just moving around. Maybe Meatball is just a mellow baby [which would be a great way to be introduced to parenthood]. And yes, maternity clothes sucks. A pregnant woman did not design any of it. I think you can get away with non-maternity clothes these days :)!
