Yo, lurkers! (’08 version)

These were made by the Zacatecas peoples
They think you should comment (artifacts at the Natural History Museum)

I missed National Delurking week, which is supposedly the second week of January. I have an excuse. My computer was broken.

For those unfamiliar with the term, a lurker is “a person who reads discussions on a message board, newsgroup, chatroom, file sharing or other interactive system, but rarely participates” (source: wikipedia).

If you’re a lurker*, leave a comment. You can write whatever you want, but if you need a prompt, here’s some ideas: recommend something (a book, film, song/album, website, blog, whatever); tell me about yourself (where are you from? what do you do?); tell me why you love/like/hate Lotería Chicana.

I promise I won’t bite or call you annoying (that was so last week).

*Of course, if you regularly comment you can chime in too.

    Non-Lurker Recommendations:

Book: Flannery O’Connor: The Complete Stories
    Film: Death Proof
Albums: Silversun Pickups – Carnavas or Kate Nash – Made of Bricks or Missing Persons – Spring Session M (one of the greatest power pop albums of the 80s, and so underrated)

i guess i’m a lurker and i told mooch16 about you so i’ve introduced other lurkers to you. i’m also a latina graduate from ucla. i studied engineering and i’m currently working on a graduate degree in college counseling – so i’m really looking forward to hearing all about your dissertation.

you have great taste in music!

hey mooch – fumbles says hi!

  3. Patricia,
    Hola!

No! I’ve been trying to see Juno for several weeks. Instead I’ve seen Sweeney Todd and Walk Hard.

    AJ,
Thanks for the recommendations. I think I’ll check out the Missing Persons album first. I’m in the mood for some 80s power pop.

    Desert Chicano,
Part-time or not, it’s all good. Hi!

    GM,
Um, I wouldn’t call it endorse. But I’m still trying to figure out who to support come Tuesday Jan 5th. I’m not sure I’ll put my pick here not because I shy away from politics, but simply because I’m not sure I can currently articulate all the reasons why i lean toward a certain candidate.

    Mooch16,
Sure, why not. You rarely comment.

    Letty,
Thanks for spreading the word. I thought about going to grad school for college counseling, but ultimately decided I had different career goals. I missed counseling a lot my first year back in grad school and eventually made my way back to it (sorta). It’s pretty cool to see your former students graduate and thank you for being a core part of their success.

    Matias,
Dude, we should hit up Kerckhoff Coffee House soon. It’s been too long since I’ve seen you.

    E@V,
Nope. I think stalking involves calling and hanging up the phone and driving by my residence. It’s creepier.

This is a big step for me to admit that I am a lurker. Loteria Chicana has mad me laugh so hard my side hurts, and it has encouraged me to take another look at my family. Now let us go about our business like this conversation never happend. (wink)

  5. gm says:

please reconsider. oh, it isn’t that difficult. he supported illinois DREAM act, he taught and will respect the consitution, there you go, obama 08.
(and on a related note: we need more black/brown dialogue–so much focus on black-brown “tension”, regular divisive b.s. i tell ya)

  6. Gata says:

    Hey Cindy,

Hola once again from Ozlandia, the land down under 🙂
I’m still lurking…a year on. It’s Australia day today so we are celebrating in the sun, on the beach, cricket, beer and the BBQ…

    Listening to…Jose Gonzalez

    Watching… Almodovar

  7. Momo says:

Has anyone seen The Business of Being Born??? I missed it, and nobody’s playing it anymore >o(

    I liked Juno.

Obama’s got my back and I’ve got his. Go Obama!

    (yes, pretty random, I know)
